57.8 ct, Black Spinel

Description

Black spinel itself is a relatively rare mineral. Unlike the more well-known red or blue varieties, black spinel is much rarer.
The presence of a distinct crystalline cap makes this specimen especially valuable.

Many black spinels occur as shapeless specimens.

Crystals with well-defined facets, such as the one shown in the photo, are very rare.
